Why You Should Visit Cape Town

Cape Town, South Africa is a city that you need to visit at least once in your lifetime. There is a lot to see and do in the city which makes it one of the best travel destinations in the country, if not the continent. It is important to know the reasons why you should visit Cape Town so you can better plan your stay in the Mother City.

All Of The Attractions

A lot of people do not realize that there is a lot to do in Cape Town and the immediate surrounding area. The first stop for anyone will be the Cape Town Big 7 which includes Cape Point, the Kirstenbosch botanical gardens, Robben Island and Table Mountain. While these attractions are a good place to start, they are far from the only things to visit in the city.

You can also head to the charming Simon’s Town Nuisance statue or the Taal Monument. It is actually recommended that you book a tour when you are in the city to ensure that you sample everything that Cape Town has to offer. The tours will generally take you around the city as well as the peninsula area.

The Scenery

Cape Town is more than just a city and you will find scenery there that you cannot find anywhere else in the world. This is one of the reasons why the city is often in top global lists for scenery. While you are visiting, you can take in some of the most magnificent views in the world.

You will be able to see the rugged coastline from Cape Point with the crashing waves and sandy beaches. You can also take in the sunset over the ocean from one of the beaches in Cape Town. The nature reserves around the city will provide a view of the natural forests, fynbos regions, and wide open spaces. Of course, there is also the iconic view of the flat Table Mountain which is visible from almost every part of the city.

The Museums And Galleries

If you are more comfortable indoors and enjoy visiting museums, you will have a lot to do in Cape Town. You could take some time to explore the South African Museum and Company Gardens which are based in the city or take a trip to the Robben Island Gateway Museum. Cape Town is also home to the South African National Art Gallery which has a range of exhibitions that you can enjoy.

If you are looking for museums that are a bit different, you could head to the Simon’s Town Toy Museum or the Naval Museum. There is also the Gold of Africa Museum and the V&A Clock Tower that you can visit. You will find that you are never short of galleries and museums to visit when you are in Cape Town.

The Wine Farms

If you are heading to Cape Town, you need to take the time to wine farms. The Cape has a long history of wine-growing and there are some of the best wine-farms just outside Cape Town in the Cape Winelands. There are a few wine routes that you can discover and take as you treat yourself to tastings of the wine on offer.

The largest route will be in the Cape Winelands and includes a number of cities outside of Cape Town such as Paarl and Stellenbosch. If you want to take a shorter route, there is the Constantia Wine Route which takes you through the southern suburbs of Cape Town. Regardless of the route that you choose to take, you will be able to enjoy the vineyards and architecture that make the wine estates a sight to behold.
